A ‘Representative of an Overseas Business Visa’, also known as a UK Sole Representative Visa, is mainly used by those who want to set up a UK branch of a business. This type of visa is also used for employees of newspapers or broadcasters to stay in the UK for long-term assignments.
A Sole Representative Visa lets you stay in the UK for up to three years. After this period, you can extend the visa for a further two years. This visa type also lets you apply to settle permanently in Britain, after five years.
A Representative of an Overseas Business visa costs £625 if you apply from outside the UK.
The visa costs £719 if you apply from within the United Kingdom. Additionally, you must have your biometric data (fingerprints and a photo) taken; there is no cost associated with this. Within eight weeks, you will receive a response.
What is permitted and prohibited on this visa category:
You can:
- work full-time for your employer
- bring your dependents (family) to the UK with you
- submit a visa extension request
- once you’ve been in the UK for five years, apply to stay.
- from within the UK, change to this visa
You can’t:
- work for yourself or a different company
- obtain public funding
