What is the Canada Super Visa?
The Canada Super Visa was introduced in December 2011 by the Canadian government and has since become a popular option for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who wish to visit family in Canada.
The visa allows holders to stay in Canada for up to two years at a time, which is twice as long as a regular visitor’s visa.
Additionally, the Canada Super Visa is valid for ten years, making it a multi-entry visa, meaning holders can make multiple trips to Canada over the course of ten years.
Who Can Apply for the Canada Super Visa?
The only people who are eligible to apply for the Canada Super Visa are the parents or grandparents of Canadian permanent residents or citizens.
If you are not a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen, you will not be able to apply for this visa. Biological parents, step-parents, and adoptive parents are all eligible to apply, as long as they meet the other eligibility requirements.
Financial Support (Proof of Funds)
All super visa applicants must provide proof of financial support. This can be in the form of bank statements, pay stubs, or a letter from an employer. The documents must show that you have enough money to support yourself and any other family members who are accompanying you on your trip.
Letter of Invitation
All applicants for the Canada Super Visa must provide a letter of invitation from their child or grandchild in Canada. The letter should include information about your relationship with the applicant, as well as your travel plans.
The letter should also include the contact information of the person inviting you, as well as any other adults who will be accompanying you on your trip.
The letter should include the following details:
- Your name and date of birth.
- Your relationship with the applicant.
- The reason for your visit.
- The length of your stay.
- Where you will be staying in Canada.
- A contact number for the person inviting you.
How to Apply
The application process for the Canada Super Visa is completed online or by mail. To begin, you will need to create an account on the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website. Once you have created an account, you will be able to access the online application form.
The online application form will ask you for basic personal information, as well as information about your travel plans and the family member you are visiting in Canada. You will also be asked to upload supporting documents, such as your passport, eTA, Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document and financial information.
After you have submitted your application, you will need to pay the application fee. The fee for the Canada Super Visa is $100 CAD. You will also be asked to apply for biometrics. Biometrics are digital fingerprints and a photo of your face, which are used to verify your identity. The biometrics fee is $85 CAD per person.
Once you have paid the application fee and submitted your biometrics, you can track your application status online or at Visa Application Centers.
After You Apply
After you have applied for the Canada Super Visa, you will need to wait for a decision from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The processing time for super visas is usually around eight weeks. If your application is approved, you will receive a letter of introduction. This letter will be valid for up to ten years and will allow you to enter Canada multiple times.
If your application is refused, you will receive a letter from IRCC explaining the reasons for the refusal. You may be able to appeal the decision or reapply for the Canada Super Visa if your circumstances have changed.
