Trump policies make it nearly impossible for refugees to come to the US

Across the US, hundreds of thousands of refugees are desperately waiting to have their visa approved, to enter the country and be reunited with their family.

Unfortunately, under the Trump administration, these family may still have to wait long before their visa is approved, and until then they won’t be able to stay with their families.

Asylum seekers and refugees are usually legal immigrants fleeing persecution, war or violence. However, before they can enter the US, they must go through several tests and background and security checks. This can take several years. Besides, many of them are not allowed to bring their family with them, and they need to wait to apply for a visa for their relatives to travel to the US.

Danielle Grigsby, interim director at Refugee Council USA, says:

“When war breaks out and a crisis happens in your community you flee where you’re at. Oftentimes families just scatter to the winds to save their lives.”
