Successful Application Before 6th November 2014
If you successfully applied for a UK Investor Visa before 6th November 2014, you can apply for an Investor Visa extension if:
- You have at least £1,000,000 under your control in the UK
- You have invested at least £750,000 (or 75%) of your investment money in UK government bonds, share capital or loan capital in active UK companies
- You invested this sum within 3 months of your investor start date
The funds under your control in the UK should include the £750,000 (or more) of investment as well as the £250,000 (or the balance needed) to bring the funds up to at least £1,000,000.
These funds can be one of the following:
- Your own money/your partner’s money
- Money which has been loaned to you by a UK regulated financial institution (provided you have personal assets with a value of £2,000,000 or more)
Bear in mind that you cannot mix the two sources of funds.
Successful Application on or After 6th November 2014
If you successfully applied for an Investor Visa on or after 6th November 2014, you will need to meet different conditions to be eligible for the Investor Visa.
You must have at least £2,000,000 under your control in the UK and you must have invested those funds in share capital or loan capital in active UK companies.
Also, you must have invested this money within 3 months of your investor start date.
You must have invested the full amount made up of your own money or your partner’s money.
If you applied for your visa before 29th March 2019, you can apply to extend your visa if you invested your funds in UK government bonds.
You must have invested the full amount made up of your own money or your partner’s money.
How Do I Prove That I Invested my Money Within 3 Months of the Investor Start Date?
To be eligible for an Investor Visa extension, you must be able to prove that you invested your funds within three months of your investor start date.
The investor start date is the date you came to the UK or the date your original visa application, or switch to the visa category, was approved. If you cannot prove the date of your entry into the UK, the latter applies.
You will need to provide a series of investment portfolio reports, which must have been produced by a UK regulated financial institution.
If you received your visa in line with the UK immigration rules which were in place before 6th November 2014, you need to show that you invested at least £750,000 in a UK business or UK government bonds within three months of your investor start date.
If you received your visa in line with the UK immigration rules in place on or after 6th November 2014, you need to show that you invested all £2 million within three months of your investor start date. Also, the level of the investment must have been maintained for the validity period of the visa.
Investor Visa Extension Application Process
You must apply for an extension before your current visa expires. The application must be made online.
You will need to pay the full Investor Visa application fee of £1,623. You will also need to pay the £1,623 fee for each dependent who is living with you.
As with the majority of UK visa applications, you can choose one of the priority services to expediate the application process.
With the priority service, your application will be processed within five working days at an additional cost £500. With the super priority service, your application will be processed within one working day at an additional cost of £800.
Bear in mind that you will also need to still pay the annual immigration health surcharge of £624 per year.
After you have completed the application, you will be asked to provide your biometric information (fingerprints and a photo) at a UKVCAS point.
When Will I Receive a Decision on my Application?
Generally, you will receive a decision on your Tier 1 Investor Visa application within 8 weeks of your application date (if you used the priority service).
It may take longer for your application to be processed if there are any concerns with your application, such as your investment portfolio reports. In some cases, your supporting documents may need to be verified. You may need to attend an interview if UK immigration officials deem it to be necessary.
After you receive your decision letter, your biometric residence permit will be sent to you. It can take up to ten working days for you to receive it.
When Can I Apply for an Extension?
You can apply for a UK Investor Visa extension at any time prior to the expiry of your leave.
It is important to bear in mind that the extension will be granted from the date of the decision, rather than the date of when your current leave expires. For this reason, we recommend not applying for the extension until around two months before your original visa is due to expire.
You must apply for an Investor Visa extension before your current immigration permission expires. Failure to do so could result in disciplinary action, including the possibility of deportation from the United Kingdom.
