Teri: Proposed Civil Partner Visa

Teri is a Malayasia National who met her partner Linda online. The couple met up for the first time in the UK and shortly became engaged. Linda was unsure about how Teri could emigrate to the UK and contacted IAS for help. Teri and Linda met with one of our lawyers face to face and after a lengthy discussion, Linda and Teri walked out stress-free as the lawyer took the case off their hands. A few weeks later, Teri’s application for a Proposed Civil Partner Visa was successful.

1: The situation

Teri had met Linda online a year before she contacted IAS – Teri was a Malaysian National and Linda was from the UK.

After months of correspondence, they had both decided to meet up. Linda invited Teri to the UK to visit her in Scotland.

Shortly after arriving, it was clear that their relationship was special and they became engaged.

They wanted to know what their options were for Teri to remain in the UK so they had called IAS and spoke with our Enquiry Team.

2: How IAS helped

Our team determined that Teri was eligible to enter the UK as a Proposed Civil Partner, but she would have to leave the UK to make an application for this. The couple had not expected this and decided that they needed full advice.

With our team’s help, they were booked in to speak to one of our lawyers the following day.

We made the rules clear to them and outlined a plan of action based on their circumstances and also their desired outcome – they wanted to keep the time Teri was out of the UK to a minimum.

3: The outcome

With this in mind, our lawyer made no delay in taking ownership of their application and worked closely alongside the couple over the next few weeks.

With our help, they managed to gather the required forms, ensure they were correct and book Teri an appointment with a local Application Centre immediately after she was due to arrive back in Malaysia.

The application was successful and several weeks later, Teri and Linda were reunited in the UK.
