Helen, a Canadian National, wanted to stay in the UK for six months when visiting her friend in the UK.
She knew the maximum time she was permitted to spend in the UK was six months, but she wanted to confirm this with a lawyer so that she did not break any immigration rules with her Visitor Visa. She contacted IAS and we confirmed the UK immigration rules and also informed her of all the documents she needed to provide for the Entry Clearing Officer upon entry into the UK.
Helen is a Canadian National who had previously studied in the UK. During this time, she had made many lifelong friends and scheduled regular visits to the UK to keep in touch.
One trip she was planning involved staying in the UK for nearly the entire six months that she was permitted as a visitor.
Before booking her trip, Helen contacted IAS for entry clearance advice to see if this would be an issue and to ensure that she would definitely be able to enter and stay in the UK without any issues.
IAS called Helen at a suitable time – we confirmed to her the rulings that she could not stay longer than six months but that anything within this timeframe would be acceptable.
We confirmed that the trip she had planned would not be an issue, however, we were clear to advise her that she should have a detailed travel itinerary along with flight bookings to account for her time in the UK.
From IAS’ extensive experience, we knew that these documents are not required, but are helpful when declaring your intentions to the Entry Clearance Officers upon arrival into the UK.
Confident in our information, Helen made her bookings and successfully travelled the UK to visit her friends.
