The IAS Visa Wizard is the easy way to find the correct visa for you
Harriet is a dual Canadian-British Citizen. She had entered the UK as a Spouse several years before contacting us.
She was seven months pregnant when she contacted IAS and needed us to confirm if her parents, both Canadian Citizens, would require anything to enter the UK and for how long they could stay.
As her husband worked full-time, she also wanted to explore the option of having her mother stay for longer to help her with her soon-to-be-born child.
After a brief email exchange, we arranged a conference call with Harriet and her parents in Canada.
Our lawyer explained to them that Canadian nationals are considered ‘Non-Visa Nationals’ and do not need a visa for stays of less than six months.
With regards to Harriet’s mother, we made it clear that she could make an application to remain as an adult dependent visa but there is a low likelihood of successfully securing this visa.
Harriet’s parents were in the UK for the birth of their grandchild, and remained for a further four months to provide assistance, support and care.
They had considered the difficulties of making an application for Harriet’s mother to remain as an adult dependant relative and concluded that they would not be eligible.
They were grateful to IAS that they would not have to make a costly and time-consuming application, and instead could focus on their growing family.
