1: The situation

Derek, a US National was in a long-term, long-distance relationship with his fiancée in the UK.

He was visiting her in the UK and making plans to get married within the next month.

He wanted to be able to secure a visa so that he could stay in the UK for longer than six months at a time.

As a result, he had decided to arrange a Skype session with IAS for advice.

2: How IAS helped

After arranging a suitable time and date with Derek, out lawyer spoke with him.

IAS informed him that, due to the terms of his stay, he would not be able to get married in the UK as just a visitor.

This meant that he would have to return to the USA to make his application.

Derek was shocked as all of the bookings had been made, and he was afraid he would have to cancel his plans at great expense.

IAS laid out a detailed plan for his urgent situation as part of our fast-track application package. We helped him gather the appropriate documents for a Fiance Visa, complete the application form in the UK and made arrangements for submission of his application to be submitted as soon as he was back in the USA.

This saved him a great deal of time and meant that when he arrived back home, his appointment with the Application Centre was already arranged, and his documents were sent back to the UK by a courier organised by IAS.

3: The outcome

Although he was anxious, Derek received his decision after three weeks from the Home Office. His application had been accepted.

This meant that he could return to the UK, resume organising his Wedding Day without any cancellations and was assured that his stay was lawful.

Moving to the UK for US citizens.
